New Breakthrough in Titanium Alloy Forging in 2025

Recently, a new breakthrough has been reported in the field of domestic equipment manufacturing. Relying on the long-term accumulation of large-tonnage forging simulation data and process verification experience, a high-end equipment manufacturing company successfully completed the billet forging operation of 17-ton titanium alloy materials, creating a new record in the weight of single-body titanium alloy forging in China.

In the traditional large-size billet forging process, the difference in deformation between the core and the surface of the billet is generally more than 15%. This time, the technical team optimized the forging ratio parameters and forging rate control scheme, and with the help of the high-precision pressure control capability of the 125MN fast forging press unit, effectively controlled the difference in internal and external deformation of the 17-ton titanium alloy billet to within 5%. This breakthrough has laid an important technical foundation for the industrial production of super-large titanium alloy products of 20 tons and above.

This technological breakthrough will be mainly applied to strategic fields such as shipbuilding, nuclear energy equipment, and marine engineering, and will strongly promote the localization of large titanium alloy and high-temperature alloy high-performance forging products. The relevant technical team said that they will continue to carry out technical research and strive to break through the manufacturing bottleneck of core components of high-end equipment, and provide important technical support for improving the level of independence of major equipment in my country.
